The Green Inferno is a 2013 American cannibal horror-thriller film directed by Eli Roth and co-written with Guillermo Amoedo. The film stars Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Sky Ferreira and Daryl Sabara. The film was inspired by Italian cannibal film Cannibal Holocaust, which was originally written under the working title Green Inferno. The film will be released on September 5, 2014, by Open Road Films.
An idealistic group of student activists travel from New York City to the Amazon to save a vanishing native tribe, but crash in the jungle. They are then, ironically, taken hostage by the very natives they want to protect.
On May 17, 2012 at 2012 Cannes Film Festival Eli Roth announced that he is planning to direct a horror thriller The Green Inferno, Worldview Entertainment also announced to finance and produce the film. Roth will be co-writing the script with Guillermo Amoedo.
The production was set to begin in Autumn 2012 in Peru and Chile. In October 2012 it was announced in a press that filming is set to begin in November in Peru. On 25 October Roth announced the full cast for his upcoming horror thriller film. The cast includes Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Aaron Burns, Daryl Sabara, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Magda Apanowicz and Sky Ferreira.
First still image from the film was released on February 11, 2013. Roth has said in an interview in February 2013 that he wanted the film to look like a Werner Herzog or Terrence Malick film. He has also said that he was inspired by such Italian cannibal movies as Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox.
The start of the filming began on October 2012 in New York City, and the principal photography of the film began on November 5, 2012 in Peru[6] and some locations in Chile. The film has been given an R rating by the MPAA due to its depictions of aberrant bloody violence, torture, and nudity, along with profanity.
